I GOT MY COVID-19 VACCINE #2
(2nd Dose)
My side effects were a lot more severe than expected.
Preparedness brings you no worries.
I received a reminder text message a few days before the scheduled date of the vaccination.
It contained a medical screening questionnaire asking if I had any allergic reactions to the COVID vaccine. I had to complete and send it back to them prior to my appointment.
On the day of the vaccination, we went back to the same site where we got our first shot.
Please refer to my previous post, ” I GOT MY COVID-19 VACCINE #1,” if you are interested in how the vaccination site works.
We took a selfie with a big happy smile because we didn’t expect any adverse reactions to the vaccine as our first shot didn’t give us any irritation.
* Yaaaayy! は、Yay をのばした形で「イェーイ!」の意味です。
However, in the evening (approx. 12 hours later)…
My skin started to sting all over my body and it got more painful when I was taking a shower. It was like a horrible sunburn. (Actually, this was the beginning of the chills.)
On top of it, I couldn’t really move around due to acute muscle pain. I felt like a beaten up boxer (even though I’ve never boxed).
Finally, I thought I could go to sleep, but I woke up because of a high fever and an unbearable headache and nausea.
I had no choice but to take an acetaminophen pill.
On Day 2, my headache, tiredness and entire body pain didn’t go away, so I took another pill of acetaminophen.
The end result was that I couldn’t do anything productive for the next two whole days.
* 「何も手につかず」を ここではあえて I couldn’t do anything productive と訳しました。「(何もできなくて)不毛な2日間を送ってしまった」という日本語のかくれた意味(ニュアンス)を英語で伝えるために「何も生産的な事ができなかった」と補足すると分かりやすいです。
Three days later…, I got fully recovered and visited the government booking site for the vaccination to check what they warned about side effects. Then, I realized that I went through all of the possible side effects that the COVID vaccine can offer.
I also found that I could have drunk ‘plenty of fluids’ to reduce the discomfort of my high fever.
(Well, it’s too late! Darn me!)
Anyways…
If you are planning to get vaccinated, please take good care of yourself.
*I recommend you not get your COVID shot on the same day as your partner to avoid the situation that both of you may get sick at the same time.
*When you have severe side effects, it might be hard for you to do the house chores. It will be nice and worry-free if you could prepare foods for 3 days or so.
My personal COVID side effects experience is just one example. Side Effects may vary with each person.
* I recommend you not get your COVID shot は I recommend you not to get your COVID shot と同じ意味です。アメリカ英語は to を省略する場合が多々あります。
